SCRUM does not work. Agile is another buzzword. Having SCRUM implemented for distributed teams is like trekking on Hua Shan trail. Really?! Is SCRUM just about a board and a collection of meetings? Let me share my experience from leading distributed teams and walk you through the important aspects of agile that people often misses. I will describe the key elements of work environment, including people, roles, events, etc, where distributed teams spread across the globe work successfully using SCRUM for a complex biotechnology domain.

Rafal is in the software business since the beginning of 2005. He has worked in teams from 3 to 15 people, participating in projects managed in different methodologies, including Agile frameworks and more traditional Waterfall and RUP methods. He is an enthusiast of Agile software development. He works as Technical Leader in Roche Poland and manages work of 30+ people working in small teams. Since 2008 he has worked in a distributed environment. As for now some of the collaborators are located in California, USA (9 hours time difference) and most of his teams' members work from different locations. Rafal started his career as a software developer however as for now successes of his teams give him more satisfaction than his own.
